The Oshino (Otsuka) sites are the oldest in Nonoichi City, dating from 3,800 to 4,000 years ago. Among the vast alluvial fan of the Tedori River, Jomon-era people were the first to settle in and around Oshino (Otsuka).
There was a large mound in the area; however, it is assumed that it was flattened to create rice fields during the Meiji Period (1868-1912), and its exact location is no longer clear. According to historical documents, it was round and measured 73 m in circumference, which leads to the assumption that it entombed the sites of a person of high rank.
