In 1872, the new Education Act came into force and schools were built nationwide. In 1873, Nonoichi Village Elementary School was established. At first, the school opened in a home. In the following year, a school facility was built. In 1892, the school was renamed Nonoichi General Elementary School (Jinjo Koto Shogakko), and in 1897, due to deterioration of the building and an increase in students, a new school facility was built. In 1923, a new building was added on the land next to the school.
In 1961, Nonoichi General Elementary School was closed due to the establishment of a new elementary school in present-day Hon-machi 5-chome through integration with Tomioku Elementary School. A stone monument was built on the former site of the elementary school.
