Toshitsune Maeda was the fourth son of Toshiie Maeda, founder of Kaga Domain. When the feudal lord Toshinaga Maeda retired in 1605, Toshitsune succeeded him.
Toshitsune made a major contribution to flood control and agriculture. He also encouraged the development of arts, crafts, and entertainment, and established a base of culture in Kaga Province.
This letter was written in the mid-17th century by Toshitsune to ask about a female relative who had taken sick. It expresses the affection he felt for his family.
