Kyozuka were mounds built and used over a long period of time to store sutras to be passed down to later generations. This was begun at the end of 12th century.
By the beginning of the 17th century, reki-ishi kyozuka (mounds made with small stones) were being built. Sutras were written on the rocks as prayers for the safety of the settlement. The name of the area "Okyozuka" came from these kyozuka.
Located on a plain, this is a rare kyozuka in Ishikawa Prefecture. These are precious sites that can tell us how people of that time lived.
