The Kaganokuni Ishikawagun Sonshi (History of Villages in Ishikawa County, Kaga Province) describes the origin of Nagaike Village's name. It describes the village as being long from north to south, with more dwellings seen in the south, on land that was created by filling a long, thin pond. In Japanese, Nagaike means long, thin pond.
Adjustments to rice fields that took place during the Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-1926) Periods to increase convenience altered the north-south line of the village. A stone marker along Yasuhara River shows the changes in the border.
Survey by Kaga Domain in 1712 listed Ikkasho Hachiman-no-miya as the town shrine. It was renamed Hachiman Shrine, and then merged with Arakawa Shrine in Futsukaichi in 1907. Because Nagaike Town did not have many residences, it held events together with Futsukaichi.
