The name of the area "Okyozuka" came from the kyozuka (Sutra mound) located to the north of the settlement. The Land Tax Notification submitted in 1670 listed 1,028 koku (kusadaka: total rice production), and 25 farmers, etc.
Okyozuka was controlled by Oshino Village. In 1956, Okyozuka became part of Kanazawa City. Dissatisfied, however, Okyozuka residents joined Noshiro, Oshino, and Oshikoshi the next year in 1957 to form Nonoichi Town.
In late July of each year, a torch procession takes place to drive away crop-eating insects. A Bon festival dance, Okyozuka Jongara has been passed down through the generations.
Through a land readjustment project carried out between 1980 and 2003, this area evolved from a rural farming area into a downtown section with large stores and restaurants. The address also changed to Okyozuka 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-chome.
