Hoping to push industrial development in the mountainous areas forward, a number of residents established Ishikawa Electric Railroad Co., Ltd. (Ishikawa Denki Tetsudo) in 1914.
Fifty-five residents became shareholders, and village mayor Tosaku Fujimura assumed the position of Managing Director.
In 1915, the railroad opened from Shin-Nonoichi Station, and the company was renamed Ishikawa Railroad Co., Ltd. (Ishikawa Tetsudo) In 1918, the line was expanded between Tsurugi and Kanazawa through collaboration with other railroad companies. First, they operated steam locomotives, and then changed to electric in 1921.
In 1923, the company merged with Kanazawa Electric Railroad (Kanazawa Denki Tetsudo). In 1943, management rights of the Ishikawa Line were transferred to Hokuriku Railroad Co., Ltd., which resulted in a name change to the Hokuriku Railroad Ishikawa Line.
