The place name, Taheiji, is from the temple that Gen-I Fushaku, a senior disciple of Sotetsu Meiho and the 4th chief priest of Daijoji Temple, established in the area.
The road running through the area from north to south is called Taheiji Kaido (Taheiji Road).
The following legends are associated with Taheiji:
Oihagi Onizo (Onizo the Thief): Fearing his greedy wife, Onizo the Thief ran off to Taheiji Temple, swore off his bad ways, and became a disciple of the temple's priest.
Murata no Jizo: Following a revelation that came to him in a dream, a man found a stone statue buried underground, brought it home, and received great blessings.
Yohachi and Koshinzuka (Yohachi and Koshinzuka Mound): The legend of borrowing bowls for parties
